J & Co Psychology is a private psychology clinic, based in Sydney. It is owned and operated by Founder and Clinical Director, Jessica Cortes. The clinic provides psychological care for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

J & Co values holistic care, providing the latest scientific evidence based best practices. It aims at providing a safe, confidential, and accepting space to explore life’s challenges. Further, the clinic gives people the tools they need to effectively deal with their psychological well-being and improve their quality of life.

Jessica Cortes

Jessica is the clinical director and founder, who is dual qualified as the Principal Senior Clinical Psychologist (Registrar) and Rehabilitation Counsellor. She has over 13 years of experience in psychology, both professionally and academically.

Jessica is a Board Approved Supervisor (AHPRA), Full member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), Associate Member of the College of Clinical Psychologists (APS), a Full member of the Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors (ASORC) and a work cover accredited psychologist (SIRA).

Jessica is a warm, dedicated, and compassionate clinician who is passionate about helping her patients achieve social, emotional, and cognitive wellbeing. With exceptional skill, she is committed to providing a fulfilling experience for the individual by tailoring sessions to specifically cater to one’s needs.

With extensive experience among different people, Jessica has worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families in multiple clinical settings. In addition, she has experience dealing with people across diverse cultural backgrounds.

Board Approved Supervision (for experienced registered and provisional psychologist/interns)

Jessica is a Clinical Supervisor with extensive experience supervising emerging and experienced Psychologists. Jessica provides individual and group based Board approved supervision for:
– 4 + 2 and 5 + 1 pathways
– New and experienced Psychologists
– Clinical registrars and clinical psychology students (coming soon)

Jessica provides an extremely supportive, warm and safe environment for early career Psychologists and experienced psychologists to develop their professional skills, knowledge as well as facilitating personal and professional growth.

The delivery of this service focuses on highly complex case discussion, mentoring, coaching, CPD requirements, legal and ethical requirements along with professional development.

Initial assessment & Individual psychological treatment sessions

The aim of the initial assessment session is to develop a shared understanding of your concerns, difficulties, goals and expectations. This goes for approximately 75 to 90 minutes. You will be given the opportunity to discuss the following but not limited to, symptoms, background and current history along with current stressors. You may share as much or as little as you like in a safe and timely manner. You are definitely encouraged to ask as many questions as needed along the way.

The importance of the initial session allows the practitioner to case formulate and write an appropriate treatment plan that is tailored to your needs.

Subsequent sessions are approximately 50 minutes, and tailored specifically to the patient.

Telehealth

For convenience telehealth (video) and phone appointments are available for most services.  When you book, simply let our lovely team know if you’d like either of those options as an alternative to a face-to- face appointment.

Family & Relationship Counselling/Therapy

J & Co can help you work through family dynamics and concerns, so that you can achieve healthier communication as well as understanding and establishing boundaries. Along with, relationship breakdowns, challenges with children, parent- child and sibling concerns.

NDIS Assessments & Reports

NDIS is an Australia wide scheme that assists individuals with a disability. As well as psychosocial and mental health conditions at all ages. J & Co are able to support those who are self and plan management participants through National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). In order to access NDIS services, we will need to see a copy of your NDIS plan as well as plan managed contact information.

Pain Management and The Alleviate Programs

J & Co aims to teach individuals the principles of acknowledging and validating the pain they are experiencing while optimizing their overall quality of life.

 

J & Co offer the following:

  • Individual pain management sessions (between 30 and 50 minutes)
  • The Alleviate 3 week intensive pain management program (offered via face to face and online)
  • The Alleviate 6 week intensive pain management program (offered via face to face and online)
  • The Alleviate Pain Management Support Group

 

Individual sessions and programs are based on the latest clinical research and evidence-based techniques in chronic and acute pain management.

 

The Alleviate Programs and Pain management sessions include:

  • Psycho-education about chronic pain neurophysiology, neuroplasticity and the impact of these on pain perception
  • Psycho-education on the relationship between pain and mental health
  • Psychological skills training to implement pacing, Manage unhelpful thought patterns, Improve goal-setting, flare-management and problem-solving abilities
  • Strategies to assist with low mood, sleep difficulties, anxiousness and distress tolerance.
  • Strategies and management to assist with return to work and rehabilitation.
  • Resources and booklets on practical strategies to be implemented throughout the day.
  • Mindfulness and elements of cognitive behavioural therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy.

Fees & Rebates

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommended hourly fee for psychologists in 2023-2023 is $300 for a 50 minute Psychological consultation.

To ensure accessibility to good quality and affordable health services, the fees at the clinic have been reduced.

You may be able to claim a rebate of $89.65 for an individual 50 minute consultation, up to a maximum of 10 sessions per calendar year under the Better Access to Mental Health Care Programme.

Payment is due prior and/or at the time of the session. The clinic’s preferred method is direct transfer. All information can be found once an invoice is received. Electronic payment facilities by credit card only, is also available. Clients will be asked to complete a credit card authorisation form at the time of intake. All information is securely stored. A referral is not required for an appointment at the clinic. However, most patients find they are eligible to receive a rebate from Medicare and present with a referral letter (addressed to J & Co Psychology and/or your practitioner) and Mental Health Treatment Plan from their GP.

Health Funds

The clinic cannot process transactions with private health insurance. You will need to organize rebates on your own with your insurance provider.

Please note the following:

  • You will need to check with your health fund regarding your exact cover.
  • You cannot claim from Medicare and your health fund for the same session.

Cancellation Fees

If you are unable to attend an appointment, we ask that you please notify us by phone or email at your earliest convenience.

Weekends and out of hours (before 9am and after 5pm) cancelling is not accepted and a fee will be applied.
